Didactics for SLD-SEN

English is universally considered the passport to the world: it is necessary to know it both for work and for everyday life, as it has now become part of our daily life. It is the language of commerce, tourism, technology and science, but it is also the most widespread language on the web as well as the language of the media industry. Its teaching is therefore part of all school curricula, but – like all foreign languages – it creates many problems for pupils with SLD like dyslexia. Why?

Dyslexia involves difficulties in both reading and memorizing words: this is why foreign language teaching enjoys privileged attention within the Ministerial Decree 5669/2011. These difficulties are multiplied in the case of studying an opaque, non-transparent language like English, i.e. a language that cannot be read as it is written because each grapheme can correspond to several phonemes.

In addition, there are difficulties related more generically to the learning of grammar and syntax, to the construction of the sentence and to the use of verb tenses that do not exist in the Italian language: all this requires the teacher to offer an educational path based on extreme clarity and careful gradualness.

The purpose of the cards presented here is to favour precisely these two aspects, clarity and gradualness, when teaching grammar and syntax topics typical of the first and second year of a high school course of study.
